Why does my dentist say I souldn’t use mouthwash with alcohol in it?

My dentist told me I shouldn’t use alcohol based mouthwash like Listerine or Scope because, but I don’t know why. He said I should use one like Plaque or another mouthwash that has fluoride in it. But what I really want to know is why might Scope or Listerine not be good for me or my teeth?
What kind of oral problems can occur with the use of mouthwash with alcohol? What does the ADA say?
