why won’t my charcoal discs burn?

until today, i was using the top of an oil burner to put my charcoal disc on when i wanted use granular incense. then this afternoon i went out and bought a proper censer. however, i can’t light the disc properly when it’s inside it. i’ve tried lighting the disc and then transferring it into the censer, but it just goes out! i can’t burn my incense properly, and i don’t really want an oil burner on my altar. what do i do? shall i just leave the censer and put the disc on a heat proof tile? it seems a shame.

There is a chance that humidity has gotten to your charcoal. There is also the chance that there isn’t enough air circulating inside the censer.

Hold the charcoal into a flame (candle, stove) using hemostats…when the entire disc lights then place it in your censer.
