Blue Gold
Is a Blue and Gold Macaw a good pet for a first time bird owner?

I’ve been thinking about getting a blue and gold macaw for a pet and I’ve heard that they are harder to take care of….

Before you think about getting a bird check out this website, it is geared towards cockatoos, however it is applicable to all parrots, especially the larger more intelligent birds
http://www.mytoos.com/main.shtml

I birdsit a blue and gold and he is very sweet and funny however he SCREAMS and SCREAMS and it is totally normal! He wakes up with the sun, and Screams, (so if you like sleeping later then 5:30 am) he screams when I leave the room, he screams when you leave the house (and keeps screaming for a LOOOONNNG time) I live a block and a half away, and I can hear him screaming from my yard-thats how loud it is. He also screams because he likes to scream.

They also live 80+ years. Who is going to take care of him after you? Can you gaurentee he won’t end up in a shelter, unwanted, neglected etc after you are no longer around.

They can do some serious damage to your house. Every time I bird sit I leave a list of all the things he destroyed while they were away. Last time the list looked like this “The remote (cracked into pieces in a matter of minuites) one of the couch couchins, a lampshade (poked holes all over it), destroyed the back rest on one of their kitchen chairs, about 6 inches of molding around the door shredded on the floor.” All of this in a week!
A large bird is like a small hyperactive feathery child

I totally understand your desire for a bird-they are such beautiful creatues with such amazing personality and understanding-but I agree, I think you should start with a cockatiel-they are cute and clever and much less emotional then a large bird like a macaw. Macaws just are not good “starter birds”

Best Wishes!

Songbird cherry-picks tracks from the three locally released albums of Eva Cassidy, whose hauntingly beautiful vocals went virtually unheard outside her native Washington, D.C., during her short 33 years with us. History gives Steely Dan’s Walter Becker and Donald Fagen the last, hearty laugh on this, the crown jewel in their remarkable canon of ’70s Mensa pop. Sneaking onto the charts a half-decade earlier with sinuous, jazz-inflected “rock,” the dysfunctional duo’s acerbic, anti-heroic visions had been critically lauded for their band identity and killer guitar riffs, then promptly challenged when the t…

[VHS]Peter Pan(Fully Restored 45th Anniversary Limited Edition) (Walt Disney Masterpiece Collection) [VHS]

$5.95

Peter Pan has a special place in the realm of classic animated Disney films: it instills an element of childlike wonder. The 1953 version of James M. Barrie’s story is colorfully told and keeps on the straight and narrow of the book. Barrie’s wondrous focus on child’s play is the key to its longevity: kids who don’t grow up, shadows that run away from their owners, pirates, a fairy, and the magic…

Firefly: The Complete Series [Blu-ray]

As the 2005 theatrical release of Serenity made clear, Firefly was a science fiction concept that deserved a second chance. Creator Joss Whedon’s ambitious science-fiction Western (Whedon’s third series after Buffy the Vampire Slayer and A…
