Brian Tracy, a self-made millionaire states that most millionaires are very simple folk without any special educational background or knowledge. He himself was born into a poor family. He claims that it takes just as long to become a sales superstar as to remain an average performer. Recently I bought Brian Tracy’s audioteaching “21 Ways to Become a Sales Superstar“ where he  shares of the most powerful sales techniques. When Brian Tracy was a young man, he started out with nothing. He didn’t even have a high school diploma. He learned his lessons the hard way, knocking around from job to job, getting hired-fired, getting laid off and downsized regularly. But then, he began learning and practicing the ideas and the strategies you are about to learn. When he used these techniques, he got better jobs. He refined his skills and his jobs kept getting better. He went through 22 jobs before becoming the Chief Operating Officer of a 265 million dollar company. And now he has a website where he offers his secrets perfectly free. Brian Tracy claims that the main difference between successful and unsuccessful people is that the last group may be characterized by procrastination. They always find excuses for not taking the steps necessary to achieve their goals. Tracy states that the more you think what you want and how to achieve it, the more rapidly you start to move toward your goals and your goals start to move toward you. He tells about the day when his life changed and he became a sales superstar. At first he had a job in straight commission sales, cold calling from office-to-office and from door-to-door. He would often work all day long to make a single sale so that he could pay for his rooming house and have a place to sleep that night. This was not a great start at life. Then one day, he took out a piece of paper and wrote down an outrageous goal for himself. He set a goal to earn $1,000 per month in door-to-door and office-to-office selling. He folded up the piece of paper and put it away. 30 days later, his entire life had changed. During that time, he discovered a technique for closing sales that tripled his  income from the very first day. Exactly thirty days after he had written down his goal, his boss took him aside and offered him $1,000 per month to head up the sales force and teach other people what he was doing that enabled him to sell much more than anyone else. He accepted this offer and from that day forward, his life was never the same.

Tracy advises in his famous book “Goals” that I received totally free by the way, to take a piece of paper at first and to write down ten goals you want to accomplish within next twelve months. Ask yourself a question like this: “If you could only accomplish one goal from the list, which one would have the most positive impact on your life?” Then put a circle around this goal, turn the page over, set a deadline for this goal, and write everything down that you need in order to achieve the goal, and do something from this list every day.

When I myself used this technique for the first time, I looked at my goal that seemed to be totally unrealistic and unachievable. I even wrote this negative statement down next to my goal. However, I decided to reformulate this by asking “How would it be possible to achieve this goal in a year?” I looked through all my assets, made a monthly plan, which was not extremely encouraging either. I continued my work by splitting this plan into small tasks which I should accomplish on weekly and daily base, and in this way, the plan became suddenly totally realistic and achievable. All it was required was to take small steps day by day, hour by hour. And this was psychologically extremely relevant, because I didn’t have to overcome a mountain any more, just some small pebbles instead.
