melt it & nothing will ever settle out, eventually colloids & suspentions will always separate

3. explain why fog is a colloid. because the water is not dissolved. Dissolved means that there are no clumps of water left un dispersed. it is still in packages of h2o clusters that are visible

4. you get a stain on a table cloth. soapy water will not take the stain out, but rubbing alcohol will. how does this relate to chromatography? the alcohol dissolves the stain. liquid chromatography usually dissolves the solutes & pulls them to another location (like up the paper), because of the attraction of the solvent to wik up the paper. and the paper towel you use is the substitution for the chromatography paper

5. if you allow a container of sea water to sit in the sun, the liquid level gets lower and lower, and finally crystals appear. what is happening? the solution is losing water through evaporation. the solution becomes saturated. as more solvent evaporates, the crystals come out of sultion rather than the solution becoming supersaturated
