How Much Would it Cost to Get a Ring Gold Plated?

I have a ring that was my grandmothers, and I love the style of it, but it’s a bit worn and turns my finger green.
Would it be expensive to get the ring gold plated? What about replacing the stones in it? Would that be expensive?

With today’s high gold prices, a ballpark starting figure would probably be about $50, and go up from there depending on the size of the ring. Though you should keep in mind that gold plating will eventually wear off if you wear the ring regularly.

If you are changing the stones, if your new stones are very different in size or shape from the original, the jeweler may have to alter the setting. If your new stones are TOO different, the jeweler might just advise against it, so make sure they are reasonably similar; the jeweler can probably help guide your decision there. As far as cost goes, just changing the stones could start around $40 or $50, but the price will go up depending on the value of your new stones (and if you are buying them from the same place), how many you are replacing, and if alterations need to be done to the setting.

I would recommend contacting independent jewelers from your local directory first, before visiting any mall jewelers.
