why do people think “goth” and “gothic” are how you dress??

just because somebody wears a lot of dark makeup and black clothes doesnt make them gothic. i have some friends who will take one look at a person and assume they are gothic. stop judging!
i’m pretty sure gothic is not how you dress, but what is it?

Peope think this because how we present ourselves to the world is generally how people judge us. Most people are completely ignorant about the subtleties of what it means to be a “Goth,” except for dress. Also, most people are lazy and it’s much easier to make a snap judgement about somebody based on appearances than to actually get to know someone.

Don’t be too quick to get upset at someone who makes a snap decision based on dress. We do it all the time. If someone wears penny loafers, keeps their hair neat and clean and is named Jody, we automatically think they are preppy. They may be a serial killer for all we know. Interestingly enough, you’re probably more likely to be killed by a 25 year old white guy wearing jeans than you would ever be by a Goth, stereotypes nothwithstanding.
