Why some guitars have a less number of frets than the others?
Guitars are different models, and they have different numbers of frets. The most largest number, from my knowledge, is 24, but I think there could also be more. However, why some guitars have less than that? For example, a Jackson Randy Rhoads will have 24 frets, but a Fender Stratocaster will have only 21? What’s the point in all that?
Well, its true that 24 fret guitars can benefit guitarists as they have 2-3 more frets to hit notes on. However, having a 24 fret guitar means that the pickups have been relocated closer to the bridge. 24 fret guitars are my personal favorite, and I don’t care for 21 fret guitars either as another answerer stated also. Moving the pickups around also mean that there is less space for more humbuckers (if wanted) and changes the position under the strings of where they can be located. You will get a much different sound having a pickup in the neck position as opposed to the bridge position, even if its the same pickup. They way the strings vibrate creates a different signal that is picked up. Sometimes I think the MIM Strats have 21 frets so you would prefer to get the 22 fret MIA Fenders. Ive seen 22 MIM Strats from time to time.
