Montessori or daycare for my toddler?
She’s 22 months, been in the same daycare for 10 months now. We like it, but don’t love it. People are very nice but they’re cheap. They don’t buy new toys, everything is used/broken/old. They don’t read to them, teach or anything. It’s just a free for all basically.
Other option is a montessori school nearby that we just toured. It’s very structured and they do a lot with them! They have gym class, karate, ballet, spanish, technology lessons, phonics/language, counting exercises and a lot more. All tailored to her age group.
I’m leaning heavily towards montessori but would like some other opinions. I am still in school (graduate student) and won’t be graduating until December. If I send her to daycare, I will only have to work 3 days a week to make ends meet. If I send her to daycare, I’ll have to work 5. However, everyday I’ll be there to pick her up at 3:30.
Any suggestions? Advice? Experiences?
I would go with the Montessori. You will be there by 3:30 everyday so it’s not like she’ll be there for long hours. However, she will be involved in a great program.
I have older children and I wish I knew then what I know now. I wish I would have put my children in a Montessori program when they were young.
Both of my children have learning disabilities. I have done a lot of research on education and have found that if children are exposed to good programs at a young age this can prevent learning disabilities from developing in the first place.
Also, if you are interested in working with your child when she gets older there is a great program on www.davisdyslexia.com. This program is for preschool aged children and can also prevent learning disabilities from developing.
No one knows if their child will develop something like this. It’s best to intervene before a problem arises.
This program is not just for dyslexics it helps all children.
