why does everybody assume you practice magick if you are a pagan?

and why does everybody assume that all witches/practitiners of magick are religious (pagan, most times they assume you are wiccan)?

General ignorance and because everyone has a different take on what each pagan Path involves – for example not even all Wiccans do magic (although the continous insistance that Wiccans dont have to does slightly irritate me since orginally ALL wiccans practiced magic) Not all heathens use rune magic, not all Druids follow the same teachings – it doesn’t make it easy for those trying to work it out from the outside!

Those who only have a passing interest get their info from answers to questions on here, without doing the study behind it as so many on the path do. That’s not a fault just human nature. I know a bit about Christianity/Hindu/Buddhism but that doesn’t mean I’m going to study any of them.

Don’t get upset is my advice – a chance to cheerfully steer people to the right understanding is the best course IMO. Assuming of course they WANT to be correct – a lot of them don’t.
