Changing a showerhead to shower wand?

My mom gave me a shower wand to replace my old shower head with. I have plumbers tape and have replaced one like this before, but I can’t remember if I need to shut the water supply off first or if it can remain on. My water shut off is in the basement and Landlord has the key..so that’s not an option at this point…

no need to shut off the water to the apartment. as long as the faucet is off, you will have no water feeding to the shower. You will be fine. also, with the plumbers tape, make sure you wind against/up [clockwise] the groove, this will help the seating of the tape.

change the apartment shower head to my wand massager every time i move.
