what is the best short term trading strategy?

In my opinion, none.

Many day-traders use what’s called technical analysis for short term trading. They base their decision to invest/buy on nothing but charts, volume, moving averages, patterns, and other “technical” charts. I’ve studied it, and in my opinion, there was a always a void because I will not base my investment decision solely on patterns and charts. I think it’s crazy.

That’s up to you to decide though.
Long-term is safer with the use of Fundamental analysis. It is not dead, and it is the investment technique of the great ones such as Warren Buffet and Peter Lynch.
